Twisted vs Round vs Serrated Trimmer Line
Line shape changes how clean, quiet, and durable your cut is. Here's how to choose.

Same diameter, very different cut.
Round
Cheapest and most durable against hard surfaces, but it tears grass rather than slicing — more ragged, more noise.
Twisted
A spiraled profile cuts cleaner and runs noticeably quieter, with less fraying. The best all-round homeowner choice.
Serrated / multi-sided
Star, square, or serrated profiles have cutting edges that slice through thick weeds fast. They wear quicker on pavement and cost more, but for heavy growth they’re worth it.
Bottom line
For a tidy lawn, twisted in the right gauge. For weeds and brush, serrated. Round only if you’re on a budget and cutting soft grass.
